I’ve tried creating a user and a group in the users app, but they don’t appear in Nextcloud. Although there don’t appear to be any groups according to the UI, I can’t create an abtuse group because it says it already exists.
I’m thinking that trying to repair this nextcloud installation probably isn’t the best idea. It was originally installed over 5 years ago, and has been through a lot of upgrades since. It looks like this may be one too far.
Now I have backups of /data and of contacts and calendars (in ics and vcf files) I think it might be best to wipe the device and start again installing the latest app verions, but this time not try to restore any backups from the old machine, and instead create new users and copy the files over from the /data backup using sftp.
If I do this, how should I create users and groups? Should I create them in the users app or in nextcloud?
Users app should be always preferred.
If you plan to install fresh you can test this right in the beginning and see.
