Paperless - Backup and Restore problem

I installed the ‘Paperless ngx’ app yesterday. I was able to log in successfully and also upload a document. I created a user and everything went without a hitch. Before I use the app productively, I wanted to test the backup and restore. So I created a backup (automatically, every night at 02:00), which also created an archive ‘paperless-2024-1203-020259.tar.gz’. I then tested the following:

  • Remove Paperless App
  • Installed Paperless App
  • Restore Paperless Backup
  • Login to Paperless App

I was able to log in to the Paperless app as admin again, but there is no document, nor is there a user that I had created before the backup.

Perhaps I have not understood the topic of backup/restore correctly, so it would be very helpful if someone could explain to me what I have done wrong here, or perhaps misunderstood.

In my research on Paperless I have often read about the Paperless backup mechanism ‘document_exporter’, but it doesn’t seem to work in this setup either …? ??

Can anyone help me here?

Update:

I currently have the strange situation that I can no longer delete the Paperless App, I have probably tried too much and deleted directories :unamused:
How can I now remove the Paperless App cleanly from the system and then reinstall it cleanly?

Could you send logs from Settings - Support?

I was able to solve the problem that Paperless can no longer delete itself in the meantime.
Currently I have the situation as described, that after importing the backup the settings made, such as creating a user, are no longer available.

Should I run through the described scenario again and then send the logs, or did the question about the logs refer to my problem that the app could no longer be deleted?

Hello Boris,

I ran the scenario described in my post again, generating the logs twice. Once after Paperless is installed (Device error report from 11:09 CET), and the second time after Paperless is deleted, reinstalled and the backup restored (11:20 CET) → (Device error report from 11:31 CET). I have forwarded both pieces of information to suppport@syncloud.it.

I hope this helps to narrow down the problem.

My bad I actually fixed it 2 months ago but forgot to push to the store, just tested before and after the fix using your scenario and it works now. Could you update and try again please?

I have just successfully tested it with Paperless version 0.99 - thanks for the quick help!
I have a quick question about the restore process.
Question: Is there a way to monitor the progress / activities of the restore?

Currently there is no way unfortunately, you just hit restore and wait for a quick notification when it is finished

I am thinking about moving it to the app page so it shows the restore progress the same way it shows backup/install progress.
